Game Guide
Play DawnDeck in Second Life
In a hurry?
Get the essential DawnDeck loop in minutes, then come back here anytime for deeper details on gameplay, rewards, and mechanics.
Your first DawnDeck loop.
DawnDeck is played through the HUD inside Second Life. Do this in order on the official land: join the group, register, open your free chest, build the Starter Deck, then play. The Portal is the support hub: guides, chest claim codes, Deck Builder, match history, Notices & Updates, and more.
Accept and wear the HUD, then type the Activation Code from private chat into the HUD activation dialog.
Open it at the Welcoming Chest Terminal (DawnDeck - Welcoming Chest), or take a claim code from that terminal and open it on the Portal.
Add those cards at the Deck Builder Terminal (DawnDeck - Deck Builder) or the Portal Deck Builder. A match-ready Deck needs at least 7 cards. Early slots start revealed.
Play stays locked until that Deck is match-ready. Then use Practice on the HUD, and scan nearby Players for a real PvP challenge.
Do this in order on DawnDeck land.
These are the first objects to touch. Practice and PvP wait until the Starter Deck is match-ready.
Wear the group tag
Join the DD - PATREONS group and make that group tag active before using the Onboarding Pillar.
Choose Register
Touch the Onboarding Pillar (DawnDeck - Onboarding & HUD), choose Register, and choose Vampire, Lycan, or Hunter. The pillar creates or refreshes your Player account and gives you an Activation Code.
Accept the HUD
Accept the HUD copy from the pillar, add or wear it, then use the HUD activation dialog to enter your Activation Code.
Open the Welcoming Chest
Touch DawnDeck - Welcoming Chest with the HUD on. Open it there, or take a claim code and finish on the Portal. Details: Open Your Welcoming Chest.
Build the Starter Deck
Go to DawnDeck - Deck Builder or the Portal Deck Builder and put at least 7 cards in the Starter Deck. Details: Build Your Deck.
Then you can play
Use Play on the HUD for Practice, then scan nearby Players for PvP. Both stay locked until the Deck is match-ready. Details: Practice And PvP.
If you lose the HUD later, use HUD Only at the Onboarding Pillar for a fresh HUD and Activation Code. That never grants another Starter Deck or Welcoming Chest.
Your Species shapes your card costs and match passive.
Every new Player chooses Vampire, Lycan, or Hunter during onboarding. You need a Species before you can start Practice or PvP. Choose carefully: this stays on your account, and the only later switch is a paid visit to the Species Reset Pillar.
The Onboarding Pillar asks for your Species when you choose Register.
You cannot change Species at the Onboarding Pillar again. The only later switch is a paid purchase at the Species Reset Pillar. Your passives change with the new Species from that point onward.
Matching your Species gives you a cheaper play pattern.
A card that matches your Species costs 1 less Arcane when its base cost is at least 2. Universal cards can be played by everyone, but they do not receive this Species affinity discount. Off-Species cards stay playable at their normal cost.
Restores your own Crystal as you deal sustained damage.
Every 4 effective Crystal damage you deal in a match restores 1 Crystal, up to your Crystal overflow limit, the same restoration Crystal Mend provides.Builds extra Arcane during the middle turns.
On your own turns 4, 5, 6, and 7, your turn-start Arcane regen gains +1 extra Arcane, if there is room for it.Turns wasted Arcane drains into bonus Crystal damage.
Whenever your Arcane Spike can't be fully paid by the target's Arcane, the unmet amount deals half as Crystal damage instead, rounded up. No limit per match. The HUD is your main game client.
The HUD binds to your Player account with the Activation Code. After that, it manages the short player session used for gameplay actions.
Use Play to choose Practice or PvP, Inventory to inspect your cards, Profile to review account status, and Pass during your active turn.
Use the HUD to scan nearby DawnDeck Players, send a challenge, accept or decline challenges, and start a PvP match.
The HUD runs Practice against the computer and PvP against another Player. Card play, pass, surrender, and match updates happen there.
The HUD can request temporary Portal login codes and chest web claim codes when you want browser support.
The HUD shows active System Notice messages in Second Life through a dedicated notice dialog.
Second Life is the game client. The Portal supports it.
Your first objects are the Onboarding Pillar, the Welcoming Chest Terminal, and the Deck Builder Terminal. After that, use the HUD for active gameplay, other trusted in-world objects for privileged Second Life actions, and the Portal for browser support.

The Welcoming Chest is granted once during onboarding. It does not require a Key and gives you 10 cards to start your collection.
Open it at the Welcoming Chest Terminal (DawnDeck - Welcoming Chest) while wearing your activated HUD, or take a claim code from that same terminal and open it on the Portal. Then go to the Deck Builder. Practice and PvP stay locked until the Starter Deck is match-ready.
- Wear your activated HUD.
- Touch the Welcoming Chest Terminal.
- Open it there, or take a claim code to Portal Chest Opening.
- Review your new cards in the HUD or Portal.
- Go to the Deck Builder next. Do not start Practice or PvP yet.
A match-ready Deck needs at least 7 active cards.
- Do this after you open the Welcoming Chest. Practice and PvP stay locked until the Starter Deck is match-ready.
- Your Starter Deck starts with 10 slots and needs at least 7 active cards to be match-ready.
- A Deck can hold at most 2 copies of the same Card, even if you own more.
- Edit your Deck at the Deck Builder Terminal in Second Life (DawnDeck - Deck Builder) or through the Portal Deck Builder. The HUD shows your cards but does not edit the Deck.
- Deck order matters: the first slots start revealed. Cards left outside your Deck never enter a match, even if you own them.
- Editing a Deck cancels pending challenges that used it. It never changes a match already in progress.
Extra Deck Slots do not increase the number of cards you can reveal or play during a match.
Every match has a maximum of 10 Match Slots: 5 slots start revealed, following your Deck order; 5 additional slots are revealed one at a time during your turns; and any cards beyond those 10 remain hidden for the rest of the match.
Deck Slots determine how many cards you can add to your active Deck before the match starts.
The first 5 Deck positions are fixed opening Match Slots. Cards after those positions enter the hidden pool, where DawnDeck chooses the progressive reveals.
You can buy one Deck Slot at a time in Second Life, up to 15 total slots. The terminal quotes the current price before payment, and later slots cost more.
Buying extra Deck Slots adds more cards to the hidden pool, but the match is still limited to 10 Match Slots. In other words, extra Deck Slots improve your odds and deck consistency — they do not let you play more cards.
A Deck can include at most 2 copies of the same Card, even if you own more. Extra Deck Slots do not raise that limit.
Example
Suppose an important card is outside your first 5 fixed slots and is therefore part of the hidden pool.
With a 10-card Deck, there are 5 hidden cards. If one of them is the card you want, its chance of being your first progressive reveal is 1 / 5 = 20%.
With an 11-card Deck, there are 6 hidden cards. If you use the extra slot for a second copy of that card (the maximum allowed), the chance of revealing one of the copies first becomes 2 / 6 = 33.33%.
The advantage continues over the following reveals:
| Progressive Reveals | 1 copy / 10-card Deck | 2 copies / 11-card Deck |
|---|---|---|
| First reveal | 20% | 33.33% |
| First 2 reveals | 40% | 60% |
| First 3 reveals | 60% | 80% |
| First 4 reveals | 80% | 93.33% |
These percentages show the chance of seeing at least one copy by that reveal. Extra Deck Slots give you more control over what can appear from your hidden pool, making important or repeated cards more likely to show up earlier without changing the 10 Match Slot limit.
You can own up to 5 Decks, but only one is used for matches at a time.
- Your Decks are automatically labeled A through E. Custom names and renaming are not available.
- One Deck is always designated as your Match Deck. This is the Deck used for PvP challenges, Nearby Scan, and Practice. It is also the default Deck selected when purchasing a Deck Slot. You can change your Match Deck at any time through the Portal Deck Builder or the Deck Builder Terminal.
- Each card can belong to only one Deck at a time. To build another Deck, you need at least 7 unassigned cards — cards already placed in another Deck cannot be reused.
- Reaching 500 XP unlocks Deck B once. This milestone does not unlock a third Deck or any additional Decks.
- Any Deck after Deck B must be purchased as an Extra Deck at DawnDeck - Buy Extra Decks in Second Life. The Portal Deck Builder does not sell Extra Decks, and the Deck Builder Terminal only organizes Decks you already own. You can purchase one Extra Deck at a time, up to a maximum of 5 Decks. The current price is shown before payment, and each additional Extra Deck costs more than the previous one.
- An Extra Deck and a Deck Slot are different purchases. An Extra Deck creates a separate Deck, while a Deck Slot only increases the card capacity of a Deck you already own.
- Manage all your Decks through the Portal Deck Builder, where each Deck has its own tab and your Match Deck is clearly marked. When a Deck is already unlocked (for example Deck B at 500 XP), a button will appear to create it. In Second Life, touch the Deck Builder Terminal and select My Decks.
Choose how you want to play from the HUD.
Practice is a match against the computer using your active Deck. The computer plays a Deck of similar DPR and its own Species, so the match stays close while you learn cards, test combos, and get comfortable with the reveal rhythm. It gives no rewards, no XP, and no valid-match progression.
PvP is a real match against another nearby Player. Use the HUD to scan, choose a Player, send a challenge, and wait for the response. Challenges expire after 90 seconds.
Play stays locked until your Starter Deck is match-ready with at least 7 active cards. Open the Welcoming Chest, build that Deck, then use Play. Both Players need a match-ready Deck. Alpha PvP does not apply a DPR matchmaking gate: any two match-ready Decks can play.
Reduce your opponent's Crystal to zero to win immediately. Healing can bank you up to 12.
Spend Arcane to play cards. You regenerate +1 Arcane from your second turn onward, up to 10.
Each turn gives you 45 seconds to play a card, pass, or surrender.
Each Player gets up to 7 turns. If no Crystal reaches zero, tiebreak rules decide the winner.
Visible cards and hidden cards
- You can play only revealed cards.
- Hidden cards belong to the frozen Deck for that match, but their identity is never sent to any client until revealed.
- Mind Break discards only revealed opponent cards. It cannot discard from the hidden queue.
- Mind Release returns only your own cards blocked by Mind Break. Which blocked card comes back is random, the same way Mind Break picks. It never pulls from the hidden queue and never brings back a card you already played.
- Echo repeats the printed main effect of your previous play, with the same value. It never copies a combo bonus. With no previous play, or after a pass, it does nothing.
- The reveal order is decided once when the match starts, so re-opening or re-polling the HUD never re-rolls it.
Every Alpha card uses one of seven active effects.
Cards have an Arcane cost, a Species or Universal owner, and an effect. Some target you, some target the opponent, and some become stronger when a combo triggers.
Crystal Strike
Damages the opponent's Crystal.Use it to push the opponent closer to zero Crystal.
Crystal Mend
Restores your own Crystal.Use it to survive longer and bank healing into Crystal overflow.
Arcane Spike
Drains the opponent's Arcane.Use it to make stronger cards harder for the opponent to play.
Arcane Renewal
Restores your own Arcane.Use it to recover resources and keep card options open.
Mind Break
Discards revealed opponent cards.Use it to reduce the opponent's current choices. It never reaches hidden cards.
Mind Release
Takes back your own blocked cards.Use it to answer Mind Break. It only returns cards you lost to Mind Break, never cards you already played. Which blocked card comes back is random, the same way Mind Break picks.
Echo
Repeats the previous card's printed effect.Copies the main effect and value of your last played card. It does not copy combo bonuses, even if that previous card activated one.
Combos reward playing certain cards in order.
- A combo is a specific two-card sequence.
- The second card in that sequence triggers the bonus effect.
- Combo bonuses can affect Crystal, Arcane, or hand pressure depending on the configured cards.
- The Portal Combos page is read-only and helps you plan which sequences to keep in your Deck.
A match must be valid before rewards apply.
If a Player's Crystal reaches zero, the opponent wins immediately.
After 7 turns each, the winner is decided by Crystal, then Arcane, then Crystal damage dealt, then Arcane damage dealt, then revealed cards still in hand.
A Player can surrender. Three consecutive automatic passes ends the match as abandon.
A match is valid only after at least 3 turns and 60 seconds.
On a normal victory, both Players can receive valid-match progression. On a valid surrender or abandon, only the winner receives valid-match progression and rewards.
Valid PvP matches advance your account.
Practice gives no rewards. PvP rewards apply only to valid matches and may be blocked by the Same-Opponent Match Cap. Milestones grant Key Fragments, Reward Chests, and one Alpha or Eclipse Chest every 50 valid matches.
| Reward | Winner | Loser |
|---|---|---|
| Experience Points | +12 XPevery valid match | +10 XPwhen there is no surrender or abandon |
| Key Fragment milestone | +1every 5 valid matches | +1every 5 valid matches |
| Reward Chest milestone | +1every 20 valid matches | +1every 20 valid matches |
| Alpha or Eclipse Chest milestone | +1every 50 valid matches — 58.3% Alpha Chest, 41.7% Eclipse Chest | +1every 50 valid matches — 58.3% Alpha Chest, 41.7% Eclipse Chest |
| Key Fragment win bonus | 6.5% chanceon each valid win | No win bonus |
| Reward Chest win bonus | 1% chanceon each valid win | No win bonus |
| Alpha Chest win bonus | 0.25% chanceon each valid win | No win bonus |
| Eclipse Chest win bonus | 0.1% chanceon each valid win | No win bonus |
Every 50 valid matches you receive one Alpha Chest or one Eclipse Chest. The roll is weighted by the in-world price of each chest, so the cheaper chest is more likely. At the current prices that is 58.3% Alpha Chest and 41.7% Eclipse Chest. There is no extra Eclipse Chest grant at 100 matches.
Milestones count valid matches, not matches played. If you surrender or abandon, that match does not count for you, so it does not advance your milestones either.
Finish 1st, 2nd, or 3rd on a weekly or monthly board and claim extra prizes.
Ranking Awards are extra prizes on top of normal match XP, Key Fragments, and chest milestones. Only valid PvP counts. Practice, simulated matches, surrenders, and abandoned matches do not.
Every period has two boards: Most Matches and Most Wins. Each board pays its own podium, so the same Player can win more than one Ranking Award in the same week or month.
Saturday 00:00 UTC to the next Saturday 00:00 UTC (deadline Friday 23:59 UTC). Both Most Matches and Most Wins pay this same prize table.

Highest value wins. If two Players tie, the higher period win rate wins (valid wins divided by valid matches). If they still tie, the Player who reached that mark first wins. A leftover tie uses Player ID.
Awards do not expire. When a period closes, winners claim in the Portal dashboard. The Ranking Awards Pillar shows the current Top 5 and pending awards, but it does not grant prizes.
Chests add cards to your collection. Keys open most reward chests.
All chest openings are resolved by the backend. The HUD and Portal show the result, but they do not choose which cards you receive. Every pool and its per-card drop rate is public on the Cards and Combos page.
Your free onboarding chest. No Key required. It opens 10 times over a compact starter pool, so you finish onboarding with enough cards to build a match-ready Deck.
Earned from valid-match milestones or win bonuses, and can be bought in-world. Requires 1 Key to open.
Earned from the every-50 premium milestone (58.3% chance, weighted by in-world price vs Eclipse), win bonuses, in-world purchase, or admin grant. Requires 1 Key to open.
Earned from the every-50 premium milestone (41.7% chance, weighted by in-world price vs Alpha), a small win bonus, or in-world purchase. Requires 1 Key to open.
Bought in-world only — no milestone or win bonus grants it. Its own exclusive 11-card pool is all Common and built around the youngest members of each Species and their Companions. Requires 1 Key to open.
Key Fragments are match progress toward your next Key. You earn 1 Key Fragment every 5 valid matches, and each valid win also has a small chance to award an extra fragment.
Keys are the item spent to open Reward, Alpha, Eclipse, and Twilight Chests. Craft 1 Key from 5 Key Fragments at the Key Craft Pillar (DawnDeck - Key Craft), win Keys through Ranking Awards, or buy Keys in-world.
Second Life chest terminals can open the chest directly or issue a temporary chest web claim code for Portal chest opening.
Paid actions happen through trusted Second Life objects.
Purchases use a quote-then-pay flow. The object shows the current price, you pay the exact L$ amount, and the backend grants the item or action. Prices can change over time, so always use the quote shown by the official object. You can review completed payments in Transaction History.

Buy a whole extra Deck at DawnDeck - Buy Extra Decks. Each Extra Deck is quoted before payment, and prices rise until the 5-Deck ceiling. This is not a deck slot, and it is not sold at the Deck Builder or on the Portal.
Use the Species Reset Pillar (DawnDeck - Species Reset) to switch to another Species after a quoted payment.
Use the Cap Reset Pillar (DawnDeck - Reset Cap) to lift one Same-Opponent Match Cap early after a quoted payment.
Free in-world boards you can check any time.
These pillars cost nothing. Touch one while wearing your bound HUD and it prints the answer in private Second Life chat. None of them grant rewards or change your account.
DawnDeck - Ranking Pillar asks for a period and a ranking type, then prints that board in private chat. The same boards are on the Portal Ranking page.
DawnDeck - Ranking Awards shows the current weekly and monthly Top 5, the deadline, the 1st/2nd/3rd prizes for each period, and whether you have an award waiting. Claiming still happens in the Portal.
DawnDeck - Transaction History prints your paginated L$ purchase history.
DawnDeck - Recent Matches Pillar prints your last 24 hours of valid matches, including the Same-Opponent Match Cap when it is active against someone you just played.
DawnDeck - Chest Progress Pillar prints your Keys, Key Fragments, unopened chests, Chests Opened, and how many valid matches remain until the next Key Fragment, Reward Chest, and Alpha or Eclipse Chest.
The Portal is your web companion for DawnDeck in Second Life.
- Use Portal Login at the Onboarding Pillar to generate a temporary web login code. You must be wearing your bound HUD.
- Open the Dashboard to review your XP, valid matches, cards, unopened chests, Keys, Key Fragments, and chest-opening history.
- Use the Deck Builder to manage all your Decks from a browser. Each Deck has its own tab, and you can select your Match Deck or create another Deck when one becomes available.
- Visit the Playground to build both sides of a simulated match using any card from the public catalog. Run it turn by turn to explore Crystal, Arcane, combos, and Species passives. No login or Deck is required, and nothing is saved or connected to your real account.
- Use Chest Opening with a temporary web claim code generated at a chest terminal in Second Life.
- Open Match History to review completed matches and Transaction History to review your L$ purchases.
- Use Report Issue / Suggestion when you need support, find a problem, or want to share feedback.
The Portal complements your Second Life experience — it does not replace the HUD during an active match.
DawnDeck rewards are protected by backend rules.
The backend validates Player identity, Deck ownership, chest ownership, match state, and reward eligibility. The HUD is a client, not the source of truth.
After 10 rewarded valid matches against the same opponent in a rolling 24-hour window, you cannot start another PvP match against that opponent until the window clears. Short or invalid matches do not count toward the cap. Because the match never starts, matches, milestones, and rankings cannot be farmed with a single partner.
The Cap Reset Pillar can lift the match cap for one opponent pair early after a quoted payment, letting you play them again right away.
If your turn timer expires, the backend records an automatic pass. After 3 consecutive automatic passes, your opponent wins by abandon.
Repeated surrender or abandon offenses can temporarily block challenge actions. Read-only HUD and Portal surfaces remain available.
